hour. vice president joe biden will address supporters in lynchburg, virginia, while congressman paul ryan will make the second stop on his bus tour through, you guessed it, battleground ohio. governor romney as we mentioned a few moments ago here in the sunshine state, swing state no doubt as i just said. he is going to be holding a second event with marco rubio, senator rubio in kissimmee this hour. peter alexander traveling with governor romney joins us by phone now. pete, tell us about the crowds, first of all for governor romney today. >> reporter: well, craig we have taken a little jump and gone ahead of the governor so we can get to land o'lakes now. we're in what is another critical battleground. this is the tampa area, very much a battleground within this swing state here. as people begin to file in, you can see what has become an energized system of support for governor romney in this state. he is making the tour here because today is the first day of in-person polling, the first day that the polls are officially open. absentee votes already 1.1 million have been cast.

there today and joe biden on thursday. i want to put up a quote from my friend rory cooper who said "the des moines register" enl dorised carter, mondale, gore and couldn't endorse another four years of obama. wow. you see folks on the left dismissing the value of this. on the right they'll make a big deal about it. i came upon a fun study from 2008. brown university economists found that when moderate papers endorse they're seen as mort credible. when a partisan paper does it, not so much. when the chicago sun times and "denver post" endorsed kerry and bush, the study found 3% of readers switched voting allegiance. they flipped their allegiances in 2000. i have to say, i think an interesting number that matters is when you compare the endorsement numbers, obama has 34 endorsement from major, significant papers. romney has 27. look at the circulation of those endorsements. obama's total just over 9 million readers. >> 27? >> and mitt romney is at 27 and not 7. his total circulation just under 5 million. so i don't know that this is a scientific reading of those numbers, but you have

those in need, period." period? vice president joe biden was campaigning also in the sunshine state today. president obama returns to the campaign trail tomorrow. he plans to barnstorm seven battleground states over the next several days. but today, we did not see politics in action. what we saw was government in action. people with authority to make decisions. chris christie is not the first person, i think, that you would think of when you come to the, you know, arena of bipartisan cooperation. he is a mitt romney supporter and a fierce opponent of many democratic issues. for whatever reason, we saw a different chris christie with president obama today. this is what cooperation looks like. when the american people need government to work, these two elected officials became leaders, and are in lockstep with each other. about time, isn't it? things are getting done. so many politicians run for office saying that they are going to reach across the aisle when they get to washington, and they're going to get things done when they get elected. most of them never deliver. now, in defense

vice president joe biden makes two stops in wisconsin. congressman paul ryan begins his day in colorado before flying back to the midwest for a rally in cedar falls, iowa. then he joins romney in westchester in ohio tonight. then there's former president bill clinton for the fifth player in all of this if you will and look at his schedule today in florida. he goes to lake worth, then ft. myers, then st. petersburg, then tallahassee. he's got five events in total today in florida. and you know the way he talks. talk about a hoarse voice by the end of the day it will be interesting to see where his voice is by 8:00 tonight. in the frenetic final days both candidates are giving positive pitches and warnings as to what will happen if the other guy is voted in. and bolder last night the president argued for another four years. >> after four years as president, you know me by now. you know me. you may not agree with every decision that i've made. you may be frustrated at the pace change. i always remind people that when we did the auto bail out only 10% of the country approved of it.

president biden, first lady michelle obama making two stops in iowa today. all of them referencing that their thoughts are with the folks who are being impacted by this storm. but they went on without president obama who had to go back to the white house and essentially manage this very serious storm system that is moving towards the east coast. of course, there are pros and cons to this from the perspective that the election is just around the corner. on the one hand, president obama had to cancel a number of his events today. on the other hand, he gets to sort of look presidential. you heard him not really wade into that discussion though when he was asked about it. he essentially said my thoughts are not with the election right now. the bottom line is everything has the potential to become political so there are a lot of eyes watching how the president manages the storm and how mitt romney is going to respond to the storm. mitt romney did attend some campaign events the first part of the day but, of course, has canceled them into this evening and tomorrow. >> kristin welker in florid
